Coronavirus (CoV) was demonstrated to be particularly persistent in certain environments (surfaces and fomites) and on skin. It is also known that different animals including pets can be infected and constitute a reservoir for the virus which may pass to infect humans after a casual mutation. This Real-Time PCR kit detects the presence of 2019-nCoV (the etiological agent of COVID-19), in RNA extracts from environmental swabs and veterinary samples, using the sequences approved by WHO. The kit is composed of a prime quality RTqPCR enzyme mix and an oligo mix detecting the specific RdRp-gene present in 2019-nCoV Wuhan virus. The kit shall be intended for research use only although it can be used to monitor the presence of this virus on water, sewage, surfaces, fomites and the infective status of animals.
